Manuscripti

Historic records, restored, digitised and transcribed

Manuscripti, part of the Gower group, preserves the records bereavement services hold: careful restoration, high-resolution scanning of registers and large paper plans, and expert transcription of even the most difficult handwriting.

What we do

Every kind of record, carefully preserved

From a single fragile book to a whole archive, for any organisation and any collection.

  • Restoration

Fragile and damaged books and documents are conserved by hand, so they can be handled, scanned and kept for the future.

  • Large-format scanning

Bound registers and large paper plans are captured at high resolution on specialist physical scanners, page by page and sheet by sheet.

  • Expert transcription

Handwritten entries are transcribed with care over the detail that matters: names, dates, plot references and the notes in the margins.

  • Map vectorisation

Hand-drawn cemetery plans become accurate digital maps, plot by plot, ready for full historic tracking.

  • Any collection

Not only burial registers: any historic books, ledgers, deeds or plans that need restoring or digitising.

  • Your records, your choice

Digitised records are yours to use as you choose. Most go on to Deceased Online, others into Epilog Cloud, your own systems or your archive.

How it works

From the archive shelf to a digital record

Careful handling at every step, from collection to return.

  1. Step 1

    Collected with care

A member of the Gower team collects your registers, books and maps, and transports them in fireproof boxes.

  2. Step 2

    Prepared and pieced together

Plans are unrolled and flattened with care, and maps in several pieces are positioned together so each is captured whole.

  3. Step 3

    Scanned at high resolution

Every page and sheet is captured on a specialist large-format scanner.

  4. Step 4

    Digitised and transcribed

Entries are transcribed and hand-drawn plans traced into digital maps, checked against the originals.

  5. Step 5

    Returned and delivered

Your originals come back safely, and the digital records go where you choose: Deceased Online, Epilog Cloud or your own systems.

Mapping

From hand-drawn plans to a living map

Many cemeteries are still recorded on plans drawn by hand, some of them generations old. Manuscripti traces them into accurate vector maps, plot by plot, keeping the original layout and its history.

In Epilog Cloud mapping, the digitised plan becomes the base for full historic tracking of every plot. It can equally be delivered for your own mapping software.

  • Every plot captured as its own shape
  • The original plan kept as a historic layer
  • Ready for Epilog Cloud or your own mapping

Where your records go next is up to you

Manuscripti works for any organisation, whatever software you use, or none. You do not need Epilog Cloud.

In most cases, digitised burial and cremation registers go on to Deceased Online, where they are preserved, searchable by the people looking for them, and earn your service a share of the revenue from record requests. But the choice is always yours.
